EduSwipe Privacy Policy
Last Updated: April 24, 2025
1. Introduction
Welcome to EduSwipe ("App", "we", "us", "our"). We are committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application EduSwipe. Please read this privacy policy carefully. IF YOU DO NOT AGREE WITH THE TERMS OF THIS PRIVACY POLICY, PLEASE DO NOT ACCESS THE APPLICATION.
2. Information We Collect
We may collect information about you in a variety of ways. The information we may collect via the App depends on the content and materials you use, and includes:
- Content Data: When you upload a PDF document ("User Document") to the App for processing, the content of that document is temporarily processed to enable the App's core functionality. We also store the learning materials (flashcards, multiple-choice questions, summaries, etc., collectively "Generated Content") created from your User Document locally on your device.
- AI Interaction Data: To generate learning materials, parts of or information derived from your User Document content are sent to a third-party AI service (currently Google Gemini). We also receive the Generated Content back from this service.
- Usage Data: Information about how you use the App, such as the features you use, decks you create or access, session durations, and interactions with learning cards (e.g., answers to questions, difficulty ratings, SRS data). This data is primarily stored locally on your device to enable App features like progress tracking and Spaced Repetition. We do not currently collect aggregated analytics data centrally.
- Subscription Data: If you subscribe to a premium version of the App, we receive information about your subscription status (e.g., active, expired, trial) from the platform store (Apple App Store or Google Play Store) via our subscription management provider (RevenueCat). We do not collect or store your payment card details; this is handled directly by Apple or Google.
- Device Data: Basic, non-personally identifiable information about your mobile device, such as device model and operating system version, may be implicitly collected by platform services or used for troubleshooting, but is not actively collected or stored by us.
3. How We Use Your Information
Having accurate information permits us to provide you with a smooth, efficient, and customized experience. Specifically, we may use information collected about you via the App to:
- Provide Core Functionality: Process your uploaded User Documents via the AI service to create Generated Content. Store and manage your decks and Generated Content locally on your device. Implement learning features like Spaced Repetition based on your interactions.
- Manage Subscriptions: Process your subscription purchase via RevenueCat and the platform stores. Verify your subscription status to unlock premium features.
- Improve the Application: Understand how users interact with the App to identify areas for improvement based on locally stored data.
- Troubleshooting: Assist with resolving technical issues.
4. Disclosure of Your Information
We may share information we have collected about you in certain situations. Your information may be disclosed as follows:
- Third-Party Service Providers:
- AI Provider (Google Gemini): We send content derived from your User Documents to Google Gemini to generate learning materials. We aim to send only the necessary information for this processing. Please refer to Google's Privacy Policy for information on how they handle data: https://policies.google.com/privacy
- Subscription Management (RevenueCat): We use RevenueCat to manage subscription status checks with Apple/Google. Please refer to RevenueCat's Privacy Policy: https://www.revenuecat.com/privacy/
- Platform Stores (Apple/Google): Your purchase is processed directly by Apple (App Store) or Google (Play Store). Their privacy policies apply to the data they collect.
- By Law or to Protect Rights: If we believe the release of information about you is necessary to respond to legal process, to investigate or remedy potential violations of our policies, or to protect the rights, property, and safety of others, we may share your information as permitted or required by any applicable law, rule, or regulation.
We do not sell your personal information. We require all third parties to respect the security of your data and to treat it in accordance with the law.
5. Data Storage and Security
Generated Content, usage data (like SRS intervals, progress), and deck information are stored locally on your device using AsyncStorage. Uploaded User Documents are processed in memory or temporary storage during AI interaction and are not permanently stored by the App itself after processing.
We use administrative, technical, and physical security measures to help protect the information transmitted to and processed by third-party services (like secure connections). While we strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your information, we cannot guarantee its absolute security. Any information stored locally on your device is subject to the security of the device itself.
6. Your Data Protection Rights (e.g., under GDPR)
Depending on your location, you may have the following rights regarding your personal data:
- The right to access – You have the right to request copies of your personal data.
- The right to rectification – You have the right to request that we correct any information you believe is inaccurate or complete information you believe is incomplete.
- The right to erasure – You have the right to request that we erase your personal data, under certain conditions. Note: As most data is stored locally, uninstalling the App will typically remove locally stored data.
- The right to restrict processing – You have the right to request that we restrict the processing of your personal data, under certain conditions.
- The right to object to processing – You have the right to object to our processing of your personal data, under certain conditions.
